Stars fly the tangerine tan flag

Wednesday 6 April, 2011 by Cairín

We were excited to see the unveiling of the stars lined up to participate in the next Dancing with the Stars series yesterday.

The 11 contestants-to-be made for a glamorous image suitably representative of the popular showbiz program but we also noticed that the tangerine tan was out in force.

The stylist to the stars seemed to be harking back to the days of tin-foil, reef-oil and the dark tan aspirations of the 80s when creating these promotional shots with feathered hair, platinum blondes, glitter and streaky tans featuring heavily.

While we applaud the stars for faking it rather than baking it, we think they may have missed the memo from Melbourne's runways following the recent L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, which revealed that the bronze Aussie glow is out with the natural look set to be one of the key trends on the autumn-winter catwalks.

We would have loved to have seen some old Hollywood glamour personified by shades of nude, beige and washes of pastels instead to show viewers that these stars support natural skin colours.

However, we were really happy to read that contestant Lara Bingle will be dancing in memory of her father, Graham, who died from bowel cancer almost two years ago.

Tell us what you think of the tangerine troops - are they hot or not? We'd love to hear your thoughts!
