Sarah 's story
My grandmother was always someone who worshipped the sun. By the end of summer she would have glowing, tanned skin. As a child growing up I wanted to be just like her. As the years passed, her smooth tanned skin didn’t glow anymore. She had deep creases across her face and neck and many dark spots around her forehead, cheeks and the backs of her hands. Her mind and body were still young in spirit but her skin had aged so much more. The first skin cancer appeared as a very ugly lump on the side of her beautiful face. It was removed and then another appeared. Eventually just removing them was no longer an option. Her melanoma couldn’t just be cut out. It took her away from us. I now work hard at the most important lesson my grandmother taught me – NOT to be like her.
